For this shot, I just happened to wake up early and notice that there was potential for a good sunrise, so I threw some warm clothes on, and ran over to the field next to the house. Central Jersey was in the middle of a very cold stretch so it was probably around 10 degrees that morning and everything was frozen over, including this low spot in the grass. Then we got some good color in the clouds. I was hoping to have the color reflected in the ice but that didn't really work out too well. I think this is a decent image but nothing spectacular.
January 26 was a very productive photographic day. It snow overnight (only about an inch) and then cleared up in the morning for some great light. I had already planned to go to NYC to get do some things and get a specific shot that involved the moon rising as it was a full moon and weather conditions were favorable. The shot I wanted to get didn't work out as there was some construction that preventing me getting to the spot I needed to get to get the shot.
So, this is the shot I ended up. A massive telephoto shot of the Brooklyn Bridge. This is shot with the 500mm with a 1.4x teleconverter on the 7D, so the focal length is 1,120mm equivalent on a film camera. For perspective the distance from my location to the bridge is 4.25 miles. The long focal length is what gives the moon it's apparently massive size. I also like that there's a plane in front of the moon as well.
Here's a shot that is done with the same style as the January 13th shot. Check out the post from that day for how the sparks were generated for the shot. This one is a more interesting location and the moon light helped to light up the bridge and trees. Triggered this shot with my remotes and this was the only frame I took.
I'm hoping to be doing quite a few portraits for the 365 project, so I figured I should start of with a self-portrait. Here's me, shot in my office.
Fabulous, as always!
